The road between Wakasa bay and the city of Kyoto is called “Saba Kaido”.
‘Saba’ is mackerel and ‘Kaido’ means a road.
Long ago, when cars and trains didn’t exist, sea food was carried by foot.
Especially they transported a lot of mackerels, that is why it came to be called the Saba Kaido.
Mackerels were preserved with salt so when they got to the city, they were delicious.
There are several shops sell Saba zushi ( mackerel sushi) on Saba Kaido.
This is Tochiuumetake( 栃生梅竹).
I like it best.
It is very good, so I sometimes go there to eat with friends.
