Setsubun

Today is Setsubun.

It is the day for the change of seasons–it means the end of winter.

People drive evil spirits out of a person by throwing beans at night.

Usually the father plays a demon and the children throw beans at him.

While they threw beans, they call ” Demon go outside, happiness is inside. (Oni wa soto. Fuku wa uchi.)

And people eat beans in the same amount as their age.

The beans are usually roasted soybeans.
